DOC RIC
Ricardo Wilson, the second born Wilson brother, was born in Panama and immigrated to New York as a child. He grew up in the Bed-Stuy area of Brooklyn with his parents. He is a vocalist with Mandrill and plays saxophone, congas, and percussion. Ric had already taken up a career as a medical doctor when the group officially formed; the brothers had performed together for quite some time, rehearsing at the beauty salon where their mother worked. They took their name from the variety of West African ape (because of its distinctive, colorful face and well-developed, family-oriented social organization).
